In my 3rd year at university, I got an internship role at a Pharmaceutical company.

I learnt very quickly that wearing a lab coat and mixing chemicals was not what I wanted to do with my life.

Today, I am in the career path I love but I tried a few things before I found my career purpose, first a PA, then Customer Service, Business Development, Administration, Procurement and finally, Human Resources.

If you are searching for the right career path, these points can help

  1. Identify what you don’t want: My internship period was a good time to find out what I didn’t like, and that helped me.
  2. Keep an open mind: as a young graduate, I had no clue what my options were but I remained open to opportunities
  3. Don’t be in a hurry: finding work that fulfills you can take time. If you can, take your time and explore
  4. Pay attention to what excites you: when I look back at my career, I see the skills I was most excited to use are the same I use today as a HR Professional.
  5. Let go of limiting beliefs: many times we doubt our capabilities and feel incompetent. I remember when I stumbled onto HR, at first I felt like a fraud but I was determined to pursue it to see if it was for me or not.
